About SillyTavern

SillyTavern is a locally installed interface for chatting with language models, best known in the roleplay and interactive-fiction community. It connects to local backends and to many cloud APIs, and adds deep control over prompts, character cards, lorebooks, group chats, image generation and text-to-speech. It is aimed at people who want to tune every part of the conversation and are willing to learn, and the project openly says it embraces a steep learning curve. Many users pair it with local models through tools such as KoboldCpp or Ollama, or with uncensored hosted models. It started in 2023 as a fork of TavernAI and is developed by a large volunteer community. The project is free and open source, and promises to stay that way. Installation needs Node.js and some comfort with the command line. It runs on Windows, Linux, macOS and Android, or in Docker.

Best for: Roleplay and fiction fans who want full control over prompts, characters and models.
