About Subito
Subito is the main general classifieds site in Italy. Private sellers and businesses post ads for almost anything, from used furniture, phones and clothes to cars, motorbikes, flats for sale or rent, and job vacancies, which are split into four areas: Market, Motori, Immobili and Lavoro. Buyers search by category and location, then contact the seller through the site or app. For items that can be posted, Subito offers in-app payment with shipping and buyer protection, so the seller is only paid once the parcel arrives; otherwise deals happen in person. Posting a basic ad is free for private users, while paid options push a listing higher, and dealers, estate agents and employers buy business packages. It started in Milan in 2007 and belongs to Adevinta, the group behind Marktplaats and leboncoin. Subito runs on the web and in iOS and Android apps, and is aimed squarely at Italy, so listings outside the country are rare.
Best for: Anyone in Italy buying or selling used goods, cars or property through local ads.
Pros and cons
What works
- The largest pool of Italian listings across goods, cars, homes and jobs
- Free basic ads for private sellers
- Shipping with buyer protection for postable items
Why people leave
- Italy only, so it is no use for selling abroad
- Busy categories push free ads down unless you pay to promote them
- Local in-person deals carry the usual classifieds scam risks
