About Trados Studio

Trados Studio is the computer-assisted translation tool from RWS that many agencies require their freelancers to use. Translators work segment by segment with translation memory, termbases, machine translation suggestions and quality checks, and Studio handles a very wide range of file formats, from Office and InDesign to XML and software resource files, keeping formatting intact. It is a Windows desktop application, now bundled with Trados cloud features for sharing projects and working in a browser. Editions range from Freelance for individual translators to Professional for agencies and teams, sold as subscriptions; the Freelance edition is offered with a risk-free period rather than a classic trial, while Professional has a free trial. Its strength is ubiquity and depth: clients send Trados packages and expect them back. The downsides are a steep learning curve, a heavy Windows-only desktop app, and pricing that adds up for freelancers.

Best for: Professional translators and agencies whose clients expect Trados files.
