About Matecat
Matecat is a browser-based computer-assisted translation tool built by Translated, the company behind Lara Translate. You upload a document in one of many supported formats, and Matecat splits it into segments with machine translation and matches from a large shared translation memory, so you can post-edit rather than translate from scratch. It handles tags and formatting, offers QA checks and a document aligner for building memories from old translations, and lets you outsource a project to professional translators from inside the tool. It is free for translators, agencies and companies, and the code is open source, so it can also be self-hosted, though most people use the hosted version. Because it runs in the browser, it works on any operating system. Compared with Trados or memoQ it offers fewer project management features and less control over offline work, and it depends on a connection.
Best for: Translators who want a free, no-install CAT tool for post-editing machine translation.
