About TYPO3
TYPO3 is an open-source CMS written in PHP and released under the GPL, with roots going back to 1997. It is especially popular in German-speaking countries and with European enterprises, universities and public bodies that run many sites and languages from a single installation. Its page tree, granular backend permissions, workspaces for staging changes and multi-language handling are built for large editorial teams. Long-term support versions give organisations years of security updates, and a not-for-profit TYPO3 Association plus a commercial ecosystem of agencies and certified partners back the project. The trade-off is complexity. TYPO3 has its own configuration language and concepts, so it nearly always needs specialist developers, and its community outside Europe is small. The software is free, with optional extended support from the TYPO3 GmbH. It is self-hosted on PHP with MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL and edited in the browser.
Best for: European enterprises and institutions running many multilingual sites from one install.
