About UltraVNC
UltraVNC is a free, open-source VNC server and viewer for Windows that has been maintained for many years by a small volunteer team. Beyond basic screen sharing it includes file transfer, chat, multi-monitor handling, a mirror driver for faster capture, and optional encryption plugins. Two extras make it useful for support work: UltraVNC Repeater, which relays connections so neither side needs open ports, and UltraVNC Single Click (SC), a pre-configured executable you can hand to a user so they connect back to you with one click. It is licensed under GPL-3.0 and free for any use. The trade-offs are that it is Windows-only, setup involves more knobs than modern code-based tools, and there is no hosted service, account system or mobile app. It suits technicians and hobbyists who are comfortable configuring things and want a free tool they can fully control.
Best for: Technicians who want a free, configurable VNC toolkit for supporting Windows PCs.
