About VoiceInk

VoiceInk is an indie Mac app for voice-to-text: press a shortcut, speak, and your words are transcribed and pasted into the active app. It runs Whisper-based and other models locally on Apple silicon, so it works offline and audio stays on your Mac, with optional cloud models when you want them. Features include context-aware modes per app, a personal dictionary, AI enhancement of the transcript and support for multiple languages. Its developer open-sourced the app, so the code can be reviewed or built yourself, while the official build is sold as a one-time lifetime purchase priced by number of Macs, with lifetime updates and a 14-day refund window. An iOS version is now available as well. It's a popular, cheaper alternative to subscription dictation apps for people who mainly work on a Mac, though as a one-developer project its support and roadmap depend on a small team.

Best for: Mac users who want private, offline dictation without a subscription.
