About Windmill
Windmill is an open-source platform for engineers that combines three things often bought separately: a script runner, a workflow engine and an internal app builder. You write scripts in Python, TypeScript, Go, PHP, Bash or SQL, and Windmill turns them into endpoints, scheduled jobs and auto-generated forms, chains them into workflows with retries, approvals and branching, and lets you build UIs on top with a drag-and-drop app editor or full React code. It positions itself as an alternative to Retool for the interface side and to Airflow or Temporal for orchestration, with a fast job engine. The Community Edition is free to self-host with Docker or Kubernetes and has unlimited executions; paid cloud and enterprise self-hosted plans are priced per builder, and up to 100 guest users a month are free. It runs in the browser. Its app builder is less polished than Retool's, and the platform assumes users are comfortable writing code.
Best for: Engineering teams that want scripts, workflows and internal UIs in one self-hosted platform.
