About Yandex Search

Yandex is the dominant search engine in Russia and among the strongest for Russian-language and Cyrillic content. It began in 1997 and grew into an ecosystem of maps, taxis, music and the Alice voice assistant, which is now built into its search page at ya.ru alongside AI-generated answers. Its reverse image search has long been regarded as one of the best available, which is a common reason people outside Russia use it. Search is free and ad-supported. It works in any browser and through Yandex apps on iOS and Android. People elsewhere should weigh that Yandex operates under Russian law, which gives authorities broad access to data and influences what news and political content appears, and some services are restricted in other countries.

Best for: Russian-language searching and reverse image lookups.
