The short answer

Pick Google Forms if you want a free, simple tool for surveys, quizzes and sign-ups with results going straight into Sheets. Pick Typeform if the respondent experience and brand matter, for example in marketing, lead capture or onboarding, and you will pay for it. The biggest difference is design and cost: Google Forms is free and plain, while Typeform is polished, conversational and priced by responses.

Google Forms or Typeform: our take

Google Forms is the default free form builder for anyone with a Google account. You build surveys, quizzes and feedback forms with a simple editor, add sections and branching, and share a link or embed the form. Responses appear as live charts and export to Google Sheets, quizzes can be graded automatically, and collaborators can edit together in real time. Typeform made the one-question-at-a-time form popular: respondents move through a full-screen, conversational flow with images, video and transitions, which often feels friendlier and can improve completion rates. Behind it are conditional logic, hidden fields, calculations, scoring, payments, AI-assisted form creation and integrations with HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Sheets, Slack and Zapier.

Pricing is the starkest difference. Google Forms is free for personal accounts and included in Google Workspace plans. Typeform has a free plan, but its response cap is low; the Basic plan costs $39 per month on monthly billing with 100 responses a month, and Plus costs $79 per month for 1,000 responses. Costs become significant as volume grows.

Capabilities match the prices. Google Forms has basic theming, simple logic and no payment fields, and forms look recognisably like Google Forms; more advanced work needs add-ons or Apps Script. Typeform gives much more control over look and logic, but its conversational flow is slow for long data-entry forms, and some layout control is limited. Both run in the browser.

For classrooms, internal surveys, event sign-ups and anyone who just needs answers in a spreadsheet, Google Forms is hard to argue with. For marketers and product teams who want forms that reflect their brand, score leads and feed a CRM, Typeform is worth the money at moderate volumes.

About each app

What is Google Forms?

Google Forms is the default free form builder for millions of people because anyone with a Google account can use it. You build surveys, quizzes, sign-up sheets and feedback forms with a simple editor, add sections and branching, and share a link or embed the form. Responses show up as live summary charts and can be exported to Google Sheets for analysis, and quizzes can be graded automatically, which makes it a staple in schools. Real-time collaboration works just like in Docs. For business users it is part of Google Workspace, which adds organisation-wide sharing controls and data protections. The limits are design and power: theming is basic, logic is simple, there are no payment fields, calculations or advanced integrations without add-ons or Apps Script, and forms all look recognisably like Google Forms. It is free for personal accounts and included in Workspace plans. It runs in the browser, including on phones.

What is Typeform?

Typeform made the one-question-at-a-time form popular. Instead of a long page of fields, respondents move through a full-screen, conversational flow with images, video and smooth transitions, which tends to feel friendlier and often improves completion rates for surveys, quizzes, lead capture and onboarding. Behind the design are conditional logic, hidden fields, calculations, scoring, payment collection, AI-assisted form creation and a large integration list including HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Sheets, Slack and Zapier. Pricing is per month with tiers that set how many responses you can collect and how many users you get; there is a free plan for trying it out, but its response cap is low, and paid plans become expensive as volume grows. Because every form is conversational, long data-entry forms can feel slow, and some advanced layout control is limited. Typeform runs in the browser, and forms can be embedded in websites or shared as links. It suits marketers and product teams who care about brand and experience.
