The short answer

Both let you record screen and camera videos and share them as links, but for different audiences. Loom is built for internal async communication, replacing status meetings, bug reports and walkthroughs, and fits Jira and Confluence. Vidyard is built for sales and customer success, with viewer analytics and deep CRM integrations. Pick Loom for team updates and Vidyard for tracked outreach videos sent from your CRM.

Loom or Vidyard: our take

Loom popularised the async video message: stop recording and a link is ready, with viewers leaving timestamped comments and reactions and reading a transcript. Now owned by Atlassian, it connects closely with Jira and Confluence but works on its own, and newer versions can also record meetings. Vidyard's recorder is similar, through a Chrome extension or desktop app, but the product revolves around sending videos in emails, LinkedIn messages and CRM sequences and tracking who watched and for how long. It adds business video hosting, branded hubs and AI avatars, and integrates with Salesforce, HubSpot, Gong and Marketo.

Both have free plans with limits. Loom's free Starter plan allows 25 videos with screen recordings up to 5 minutes. Business costs $18 per user/month and removes those limits with basic editing, while Business + AI costs $24 per user/month and adds generated titles, summaries, chapters and filler-word removal, with a 14-day trial. Vidyard's Starter plan unlocks unlimited recording and full analytics with a 14-day trial, and its Teams plan, for five or more users, has custom pricing through sales. AI features are metered on Vidyard's lower plans.

Loom covers more platforms, with apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android plus Chrome; Vidyard works through the browser, a Chrome extension and Mac and Windows apps. Both have basic editing rather than a full editor.

Choose Loom if most of your videos go to colleagues and you want quick sharing and comments, especially in an Atlassian shop. Choose Vidyard if your reps send prospecting and follow-up videos and need to see engagement inside the CRM; internal-only teams are unlikely to need what it adds.

Which should you pick?

Choose Loom if…

  • Teams swapping status meetings and walkthrough calls for quick shareable videos
  • You need iOS and Android, which Vidyard doesn't list
  • Link is ready the moment you stop recording
  • Timestamped comments, reactions and transcripts for viewers

Choose Vidyard if…

  • Sales and customer success teams sending tracked video messages from their CRM
  • Deep CRM and sales engagement integrations
  • Viewer analytics show who watched and for how long

About each app

What is Loom?

Loom popularised the async video message: you record your screen with a camera bubble, stop, and a shareable link is ready straight away. Viewers can watch in the browser, leave timestamped comments and emoji reactions, and see a transcript. It is now owned by Atlassian and connects closely with Jira and Confluence, but it works on its own for any team. Recording happens through a desktop app for Mac and Windows, a Chrome extension or the mobile apps, and newer versions also record meetings. The free Starter plan caps the number of videos and the length of each screen recording, which suits occasional use but not daily walkthroughs. Paid Business plans remove those limits and add basic editing, while the AI tier writes titles, summaries and chapters and trims filler words. Pricing is per user per month, so large teams can find it adds up. It fits teams replacing status meetings, bug reports and onboarding calls with short videos.

What is Vidyard?

Vidyard is a video platform aimed at sales, marketing and customer success teams. Reps record screen and camera messages from the Chrome extension or desktop app and drop them into emails, LinkedIn or CRM sequences, and Vidyard tracks who watched and for how long. On top of messaging it offers business video hosting, branded video hubs and, more recently, AI avatars and an agent that generates personalised videos at scale. Integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, Gong, Marketo and email tools are the main reason teams choose it over general-purpose recorders. A free plan covers individual use with limits, a Starter plan unlocks unlimited recording and full analytics with a free trial, and Teams and Enterprise plans are quoted by sales. It is more expensive and sales-centric than Loom-style tools, so internal-only teams may not need what it adds, but outbound sales teams get the most value from its tracking and CRM sync.
