About Aqua Security
Aqua Security sells a platform for securing cloud-native applications from build to production. It scans container images, code dependencies and infrastructure-as-code before deployment, checks cloud accounts for misconfigurations, and then watches running containers, virtual machines, serverless functions and Kubernetes clusters for suspicious behaviour. Where many competitors stop at alerting, Aqua emphasises enforcement: it can block unauthorised processes or network activity inside a workload and apply compensating controls while a patch is pending. It can be deployed as SaaS or self-hosted, including in air-gapped and hybrid environments, which suits government and regulated buyers. Aqua is also the company behind Trivy, a widely used open-source vulnerability scanner, so many teams meet its tooling for free before buying the commercial platform. The platform is sold on custom enterprise contracts. Aqua was founded in 2015 and is based in Boston and Ramat Gan, Israel.
Best for: Enterprises running containers and Kubernetes that need runtime blocking, including in air-gapped sites.
Pros and cons
What works
- Runtime enforcement can stop malicious activity inside a container, not just alert on it
- Runs in on-premises, hybrid and air-gapped environments as well as public cloud
- Backed by the open-source Trivy scanner, which many teams already use in CI
Why people leave
- Runtime protection relies on deploying agents or enforcers into clusters
- No published pricing or free tier for the commercial platform
