About Beeminder

Beeminder takes commitment devices seriously. You set a goal as a number over time, such as pages written, workouts or weight, and Beeminder draws a 'bright red line' you have to stay on. Data comes in manually or from dozens of integrations (fitness trackers, writing tools, to-do apps, coding sites and more), and if you go off track you pay a pledge that escalates each time you fail. The idea is that a small, real financial consequence works better than streaks and badges. Core Beeminder is free to use; you pay mainly through pledges when you derail, while premium plans add power-user features such as pledge-free goals, extra goal types and more data options. It runs on the web with iOS, Android, email and Slack apps. It has been around since 2011 and has a devoted, nerdy community. The interface and terminology take some learning, and the money-on-the-line model is not for everyone.

Best for: People who respond to real consequences and want quantified goals with automatic data.
