About CleanClip

CleanClip keeps a history of everything you copy on a Mac and lets you paste older items without leaving the keyboard. Its quick menu opens right at the text cursor instead of in a separate panel, showing only a handful of recent entries until you start typing to search. Beyond plain history, it has a paste stack that pastes a series of copied items in order, a split-copy command that turns multiple lines into separate items, unlimited collection lists for snippets you reuse, and smart lists that filter items by rules. It can also show only what was copied in the app you're currently using. It handles text, images, files and some app-specific formats. The free download allows a limited number of uses per day; a one-time license removes the limit, with no subscription. It runs on recent macOS versions, with a separate iOS app sold by the same developer.

Best for: Mac users who paste a lot from the keyboard and want ordered pasting and saved snippet lists..

Pros and cons

What works

  • Paste stack pastes a sequence of copied items in order, handy for filling forms
  • Quick menu appears at the cursor, so there's no window switching
  • Collection and smart lists organise reusable snippets
  • One-time license instead of a subscription

Why people leave

  • Free version is capped at a set number of uses per day
  • Mac only on desktop; no Windows or Linux version
  • Closed source, unlike free options such as Maccy or CopyQ
