About Clippy
Clippy is a free, open-source clipboard history app for Windows, macOS and Linux, built with Rust and Tauri. It saves text, rich text, HTML, images and files you copy, and runs OCR on copied images so their text shows up in search. A search box can filter for links, colours, images and hex codes, and favourites stay pinned. Privacy is the main pitch: the local history can be encrypted and password protected, and you can set size limits and patterns that replace sensitive text. Syncing between computers goes through your own Google Drive rather than a vendor server. Power users can set global hotkeys, bind a hotkey to their own shell or Python script, and use a typing mode for fields that block pasting. It is a small community project maintained mainly by one developer, so it has less polish and documentation than commercial tools such as Paste. It suits people who want one encrypted clipboard manager that works the same on every desktop OS.
Best for: Privacy-minded users who want encrypted clipboard history that syncs across Windows, Mac and Linux.
