About Control D

Control D is a DNS filtering service from the team behind Windscribe VPN. You create profiles that block ads, trackers, malware and whole categories of sites, or redirect individual services through proxy locations, then apply them to devices, routers or entire organisations. It supports encrypted DNS, detailed analytics, and per-device and per-user rules, and in recent years has focused heavily on businesses and managed service providers, with ISO 27001 certification and pricing per endpoint. Free public resolvers with preset filters are available for anyone, and personal and business plans start with a 14-day trial. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS and routers. Compared with NextDNS it offers more management and redirection features, but the marketing and plans are now oriented toward organisations, and it shares the general limits of DNS-level blocking.

Best for: Small businesses and power users who want managed DNS filtering profiles.

What works

Strong management tools for many devices
Free public resolvers with preset filters

Why people leave

Main plans are now aimed at businesses
Full service needs a paid plan after the trial
