About uBlock Origin Lite

uBlock Origin Lite (uBOL) is the uBlock Origin team's content blocker rebuilt for Manifest V3, the extension platform Chrome and Edge now require. Instead of running a filtering engine in the background, it hands its rules to the browser, which applies them itself; that means the extension uses essentially no CPU or memory while you browse. Its default ruleset includes uBlock Origin's own filters plus EasyList and EasyPrivacy, and you choose a filtering mode per site, from basic to complete. The trade-off is flexibility: MV3 limits the number and kind of rules, so there is no element picker-style custom filtering at the level of the full version, and some cosmetic and scriptlet filtering is less thorough. It is free and open source, available for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. For most people on Chromium browsers it is now the default recommendation.

Best for: Chrome, Edge and Safari users who want uBlock Origin's filtering after Manifest V3.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Works on Chrome and Edge under Manifest V3
  • No background process, so near-zero resource use
  • Same team and core filter lists as uBlock Origin

Why people leave

  • Less flexible than full uBlock Origin
  • MV3 rule limits weaken some cosmetic filtering
  • Fewer advanced controls for power users
