About ESET PROTECT

ESET PROTECT is the business side of ESET, the Slovak security company known for NOD32. It bundles ESET's endpoint and server protection with a central web console where admins deploy agents, push policies, watch device status and respond to threats. You can use it as a cloud service run by ESET or install the server yourself on Windows, Linux or a ready-made virtual appliance. Plans come in tiers: lower ones cover antivirus, firewall and device control, and higher ones add full-disk encryption, cloud sandboxing, email and Microsoft 365 protection, vulnerability and patch management, EDR/XDR and managed detection and response. Mobile device management for Android and iOS is available in the cloud version. ESET's agents are known for being light on system resources, which suits older hardware. It is sold as a paid per-device subscription through ESET and resellers, with a free trial.

Best for: Businesses that want light, well-tested endpoint protection with a cloud or self-hosted console.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Includes full-disk encryption management for Windows and macOS on higher tiers

Why people leave

  • Mobile device management has ended in the on-prem version
  • Advanced detection, MDR and patching only come with higher tiers
  • Several separate components (agent, bridge, hub) to understand at first
