About Trellix Endpoint Security

Trellix is the enterprise security company created from McAfee's enterprise business and FireEye, and its endpoint line combines the two heritages. Endpoint Security (ENS) and the HX agent detect malware, exploits and indicators of compromise on Windows, macOS and Linux machines, while EDR with Forensics adds real-time detection, investigation, data acquisition and the ability to contain a compromised host. Everything is managed from ePolicy Orchestrator, available on-premises or as SaaS, and the products work in on-premises, cloud and hybrid setups, which still matters for government and regulated buyers that can't move fully to the cloud. Trellix also sells email, network, data loss prevention and XDR products that share threat intelligence with the endpoint tools. It is sold through sales and partners with quote-based pricing, so there is no self-serve trial for small teams. It suits large organisations, especially existing McAfee or FireEye customers, rather than small businesses wanting a simple cloud console.

Best for: Large enterprises and existing McAfee or FireEye customers needing on-prem or hybrid EDR.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Covers Windows, macOS and Linux endpoints
  • Runs on-premises, in the cloud or hybrid
  • Central management through ePolicy Orchestrator
  • Pairs with Trellix email, network and DLP products

Why people leave

  • Quote-only pricing with no self-serve plan
  • Some protections such as Exploit Guard are Windows-only
  • Product line is sprawling and hard to navigate after the merger
