About Exasol
Exasol is a German analytics database that keeps hot data in memory and spreads queries across a cluster using a massively parallel processing (MPP) design. It's used as a data warehouse or as an acceleration layer under BI tools such as Tableau and Power BI when dashboards on another system are too slow. Exasol can be deployed on-premises, on Kubernetes, or in AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, which suits companies with data sovereignty requirements. It supports SQL plus user-defined functions in Python, R and Java for in-database machine learning, and recent versions add MCP support for AI agents. Commercial Exasol is licensed through sales. For individuals there is Exasol Personal, a free, full-featured edition you deploy yourself in your own AWS account with no data size limit, intended for learning and experimentation. It's mostly chosen by mid-size and large European enterprises rather than small teams.
Best for: Enterprises needing fast BI queries with on-premises or sovereign cloud deployment.
