About Flameshot

Flameshot is a screenshot app that lets you drag a selection over the screen and mark it up on the spot before saving or copying it. The editing tools appear right around the selection: arrows, text, shapes, highlighting, blur or pixelation, numbered counters and solid boxes for hiding details. It is free and open source under the GPL, and it runs on Linux, Windows and macOS, with packages in most Linux distributions. A command-line interface means it can be scripted or bound to keyboard shortcuts, which is a big reason it's a common pick on Linux desktops. The interface colours, buttons, shortcuts and save behaviour are all configurable. It does not record video, scroll-capture long pages or upload to many cloud services out of the box, and on some Wayland desktops it needs extra setup. Flameshot suits developers, writers and support staff who take lots of annotated screenshots and want a fast, free tool.

Best for: Linux and cross-platform users who want quick annotated screenshots for free.
