About LibrePhotos
LibrePhotos is an open-source, self-hosted photo management app that started as a fork of the Ownphotos project. It indexes the folders you already have, then uses local machine learning to find faces, cluster people, detect places and events, and generate captions, all without sending data to a third party. You browse through a timeline, albums, a map and automatically created event albums, and can share with other users on the same server. It runs with Docker, Kubernetes or Unraid, and recent releases add a standalone Windows program that needs no Docker or Python. It is released under the MIT licence and maintained by volunteers. The project is smaller and moves more slowly than Immich, its mobile apps are less complete, and machine-learning indexing can be heavy on modest hardware.
Best for: Self-hosters who want face and event grouping under a permissive licence.
