About LocalSend

LocalSend sends files, folders and text between nearby devices over your local Wi-Fi or Ethernet network, with no internet connection, account or cloud server involved. Devices running the app find each other automatically, you pick a recipient, and the other side accepts; transfers are encrypted end to end over HTTPS. Because it runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, it fills the gap AirDrop and Quick Share leave when you mix ecosystems, such as sending photos from an iPhone to a Windows laptop or from Android to a Mac. It is open-source under the Apache 2.0 licence, has no ads or trackers, and is one of the most-starred file sharing projects on GitHub. The limits follow from the design: both devices must be on the same network (or a mesh network like Tailscale), and there is no link sharing for sending to someone far away. It is free with no paid tier.

Best for: Households and offices mixing Apple, Android, Windows and Linux devices on one network.
