About Lychee
Lychee is a self-hosted photo management and gallery app focused on presenting photos well. You upload images into albums, set them public, private or password-protected, and share links, with a clean interface that works on desktop and mobile browsers. It keeps original files without compression and imposes no storage limit beyond your server. Lychee is built on PHP and Laravel and can be deployed with Docker, and it is completely open source; the team also offers Lychee SE, a supporter edition with extra features. Compared with Immich or PhotoPrism it has no automatic phone backup or AI face recognition, so it is better thought of as a personal Flickr you host yourself than as a Google Photos replacement. Security updates need attention, since self-hosted PHP apps are exposed when left unpatched.
Best for: People who want a good-looking self-hosted gallery for sharing albums.
