About macai

macai is a lightweight native macOS client for chatting with AI models. Rather than using each provider's own app or website, you add your API keys for services like OpenAI, Anthropic's Claude, Google Gemini, xAI's Grok, Perplexity or OpenRouter, or point it at a local Ollama install, and talk to all of them from one minimalist window. It supports vision, image generation, search, reasoning models, personas and import and export of chats, and it can sync chats, messages and settings across Macs through iCloud. The developer states the app collects no telemetry of its own. macai is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 license, installable as a notarized download or via Homebrew, and needs macOS 14 or later on Intel or Apple silicon. You pay only the API providers for usage, or nothing if you run local models with Ollama. It's a fit for Mac users who want a simple bring-your-own-key chat app; it has no Windows, mobile or web version.

Best for: Mac users who want one native, bring-your-own-key app for cloud and local AI models.
