About MacroFactor

MacroFactor is a food logging and diet coaching app for iPhone and Android, built by the team behind the Stronger By Science fitness content. You log meals by barcode, label scan, photo, voice or a verified food database, and weigh yourself regularly. From those two streams the app back-calculates your actual energy expenditure and updates your calorie and macro targets every week, rather than relying on a fixed formula or a smartwatch estimate. The coaching is 'adherence neutral': a bad week changes the data, not the plan's tone. It supports bulking, cutting and maintenance, keto or carb-focused splits, different targets per day and full micronutrient tracking. There is no free tier and no ads; you pay a monthly, six-monthly or yearly subscription after a free trial. There is no desktop or web version, and it does not pull calorie burn from wearables. A separate MacroFactor Workouts app covers strength training.

Best for: Lifters and dieters who log consistently and want targets that adapt to their measured metabolism.

  • Full micronutrient tracking with custom targets

Why people leave

  • No free version at all, only a trial
  • Phone only: no web or desktop app
  • Ignores wearable calorie-burn data by design
  • Barcode coverage is thinner outside a handful of countries
