About Marktplaats
Marktplaats is the Dutch go-to site for buying and selling secondhand things, from bikes and furniture to cars, tools and concert tickets. Anyone with an email address can post an ad in one of roughly 1,900 categories, and buyers contact sellers through the site's messaging. Deals can be done in person or remotely: payment requests over iDEAL and a shipping option through PostNL let people buy from sellers across the country, with buyer protection on shipped orders. Basic ads are free for private sellers, while paid extras make an ad stand out, and professional sellers use the separate Marktplaats Pro with its own rates. It was founded in 1999 and is now part of Adevinta, the classifieds group that also owns Subito and leboncoin; its Belgian sister site is 2dehands. Marktplaats runs on the web and in iOS and Android apps and is aimed at the Netherlands.
Best for: People in the Netherlands selling or hunting for secondhand goods and cars.
