About MeGit

MeGit packages EGit, the Git tooling inside the Eclipse IDE, as a standalone desktop application. Its makers at EclipseSource liked EGit's history view, staging view, rebase support and conflict tools enough that they kept opening Eclipse just to use them, even on projects built in other editors, so they stripped the IDE down to a dedicated Git client. You get EGit's repository explorer, a history view with a branch graph, a staging view, interactive rebase, cherry-pick, merge and a compare editor for resolving conflicts. It is built on JGit and the Eclipse platform, runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and is free and open source under the Eclipse Public License 2.0. The interface inherits Eclipse's look, with views and perspectives that can feel heavy compared with modern clients, and the project updates less often than the bigger names. It suits developers who already know EGit or want its specific views without a whole IDE.

Best for: Developers who like Eclipse EGit's tools and want them without the full IDE.
