About Git Cola
Git Cola is a lightweight graphical Git client written in Python with Qt, maintained by David Aguilar with community contributions. Its main window is built around the commit workflow: a status list, a diff view where you stage or unstage individual lines and hunks, and a commit message editor, all with extensive keyboard shortcuts. A separate DAG view shows history as a graph, and there are tools for branches, stashes, rebase editing, and launching external diff and merge tools. Panels can be rearranged to suit your screen. It is free software under the GPL-2.0 and is packaged by most Linux distributions, with installers or instructions for Windows and macOS. Git Cola does not try to be a hosting-aware platform: there are no pull-request views or account integrations. It is a practical choice for Linux users who want a quick, dependable staging tool, and for anyone who prefers a small Qt app to a heavy Electron client.
Best for: Linux users who want a fast, keyboard-friendly staging and commit tool.
