About NewsBlur

NewsBlur is a long-running independent RSS service built by Samuel Clay, with its full source code published on GitHub under the MIT licence. Its signature feature is intelligence training: you mark authors, tags, title words or text as liked or disliked, and NewsBlur highlights or hides stories accordingly. It can also follow websites without feeds, receive email newsletters, cluster duplicate stories across feeds, keep a searchable story archive and share stories with other users. Recent versions add AI questions and a daily briefing on higher tiers, plus an MCP server and CLI. A free account covers a limited number of sites; Premium is billed yearly, with Premium Archive and Premium Pro tiers for larger libraries and faster fetching. It runs in the browser with native iOS and Android apps, and technically skilled users can self-host it. The interface has a lot of panes and options, so it rewards people who want control over what they see.

Best for: Readers who want to train their feed to surface favourite topics and hide the rest.
