About Unread

Unread is an indie RSS reader for iPhone, iPad and Mac, developed by Golden Hill Software and winner of a MacStories Selects lifetime achievement award in 2025. It is built around comfortable reading, with careful typography and colour themes, and full VoiceOver support. When a feed only carries summaries, Unread fetches the full webpage text and caches it for offline reading, and it can even log into paywalled sites and generate article text on your device. Share extensions subscribe to a site's feeds or save a page as an article. Sync runs through Unread Cloud, a free service using Sign in with Apple, or through most external feed services and self-hosted systems. The app is free to use; Unread Premium is a subscription that adds article actions for sending to read-later services, Shortcuts, caching, custom icons and more. It suits Apple users who care more about reading pleasure than about automation or AI.

Best for: Apple users who care about a calm, beautiful reading experience.
