About Redis Cloud

Redis Cloud is the managed Redis service run by the company behind Redis. It hosts Redis databases on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure, with high availability, automatic failover, backups, active-active replication across regions on higher tiers, and the full set of Redis data structures including JSON, search, time series and vector sets that come with recent Redis versions. Developers use it for caching, sessions, leaderboards, rate limiting, message streams and as a vector store or memory layer for AI agents. A free database with a small memory allowance is available for testing, Essentials plans offer shared deployments from a low fixed monthly price, and Pro plans provide dedicated, autoscaling clusters billed by usage. Redis is also available on-premise as Redis Software. It is a data service rather than a full backend, so you still need application code, auth and storage elsewhere, and it is pricier per GB than self-run Redis or Valkey.

Best for: Teams that want production Redis managed by the people who build it.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Run by Redis itself, with the newest features first
  • Active-active multi-region replication on higher tiers
  • Free database and low-priced shared plans

Why people leave

  • Free tier is only 30 MB
  • More expensive per GB than self-managed Redis or Valkey
  • A data store, not a complete backend
