About Upstash

Upstash offers serverless data services designed for apps that run on serverless and edge platforms: a Redis-compatible key-value store, a vector database, QStash for HTTP-based messaging and scheduling, Workflow for durable multi-step jobs, and newer storage and sandbox products. Every service has an HTTP API alongside the normal protocols, so it works from environments such as Cloudflare Workers and Vercel functions where long-lived connections are a problem. It is commonly used for caching, rate limiting, sessions, queues and background jobs rather than as a primary database. The free tier includes a small Redis database and a monthly command allowance; after that you choose pay-as-you-go pricing per 100,000 commands or fixed monthly plans by data size, which helps when traffic is steady. It runs as a managed service on AWS and Google Cloud regions with a web console, and integrates with Vercel and other hosts. It is not a full backend and has no auth or file storage for end users.

Best for: Serverless and edge apps that need Redis, queues or scheduled jobs over HTTP.
