About SeaTable

SeaTable is a no-code database from a German company, built by the team behind the Seafile file-sync software. It offers what Airtable users expect: typed columns, linked records, formulas, multiple views, forms, automations and a page designer, plus Python and JavaScript scripts for anything the visual tools cannot do. Its two selling points are data protection and deployment choice. The cloud service is hosted in Germany and positioned around GDPR compliance, and the SeaTable Server edition can be installed on your own infrastructure, with a free tier for small teams and paid enterprise licences. A dedicated-cloud option sits in between. Cloud pricing starts free, with Plus and Enterprise tiers charged per user per month excluding VAT. It runs in the browser with mobile-friendly web access. It suits European companies, public bodies and universities that want Airtable-like flexibility without sending data to the US, though the community and integration catalogue are smaller than Airtable's.

Best for: European organisations that want an Airtable-like database with EU hosting or on-premises install.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Cloud data hosted in Germany with a GDPR focus
  • Can be self-hosted on your own servers
  • Python and JavaScript scripting for custom logic

Why people leave

  • Smaller ecosystem and community than Airtable
  • Interface and documentation are less polished in places
  • Prices are listed in euros excluding VAT, which complicates comparisons
