About Skoove

Skoove is a piano learning app for beginners and returning players. Lessons combine short videos with play-along exercises: the app listens through the microphone, or through a MIDI connection to a digital keyboard, and tells you which notes and timing were right. Courses cover reading music, chords, technique and theory, alongside arrangements of classical, pop, jazz and film songs at different levels. It works with acoustic pianos as well as keyboards. Skoove now runs only as an iOS and Android app after retiring its web learning platform, so a phone or tablet is needed. A free Basic tier unlocks a selection of lessons; Premium is a subscription that opens the full library of 400+ lessons and adds support from piano instructors. A free trial of Premium is available, and paid plans come monthly, quarterly, yearly or as a one-off lifetime purchase. The company also offers paid one-to-one lessons with real teachers alongside the app.

Best for: Adult beginners who want structured piano lessons with real-time feedback on a phone or tablet.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Listens to acoustic pianos or MIDI keyboards and grades notes and timing
  • Courses teach reading, chords and theory, not just songs
  • Free Basic tier and a Premium trial to test before paying
  • Lifetime purchase option instead of a subscription

Why people leave

  • No longer works on desktop or in the browser, only on iOS and Android
  • Most lessons are behind the Premium subscription
  • Android support depends on fairly recent, fast devices
