About SmartDraw

SmartDraw has been around since the mid-1990s and today runs mainly in the browser. Its pitch is that diagrams format themselves: shapes snap and connectors reroute so flowcharts and org charts stay tidy as they grow. Beyond business diagrams it covers floor plans, site plans, landscaping and accident or crime-scene diagrams to scale, and it is popular with police, fire, construction and facilities teams. It can build org charts from Entra ID, generate architecture diagrams from AWS and Azure, import Visio files and generate diagrams from data or its VSON markup, and AI can draft a diagram from a prompt. Pricing is subscription-based for individuals and teams, with enterprise site licences pitched as cheaper than Lucidchart or Visio. The interface is less modern than newer canvas tools and real-time collaboration is lighter, but for scaled drawings without CAD it fills a niche.
