About Snipe-IT
Snipe-IT is a web-based IT asset management app for keeping track of laptops, phones, monitors, software licences, accessories and consumables. Staff check items in and out to people or locations, and the app keeps a full history, warranty and depreciation details, maintenance records and audit dates, with barcode and QR labels for physical stock checks. It can sync users from LDAP or Active Directory, send email alerts when licences or warranties are about to expire, and expose everything through a REST API for scripts and integrations. Built in PHP on Laravel by Grokability, it is open source and completely free to self-host; the company sells hosted plans that handle installation, backups and upgrades, plus support contracts. It is aimed at IT departments and schools that want a focused inventory tool rather than a full service desk. It does not discover devices on the network itself, so inventory is entered manually, imported, or synced through integrations.
Best for: IT teams and schools wanting a free, self-hosted inventory of hardware and licences.
