About SteerMouse

SteerMouse is a macOS utility from Plentycom Systems that replaces the vendor drivers for USB and Bluetooth mice. Each button can carry up to 24 functions depending on which modifier keys are held, and button combinations (chords) can trigger their own actions. Functions include keyboard shortcuts, clicks with options such as click lock, scrolling, zoom, Mission Control, media keys, an app switcher and opening files or URLs, all configurable per application. It also adjusts cursor and scroll acceleration and sensitivity, offers hands-free auto scroll that turns a trackball into a scroll ball, and can snap the pointer to default buttons. It has been around since 2005 and is sold as a one-time licence with a 30-day trial; major versions are paid upgrades. It does not support Apple's Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad.

Best for: Mac users with multi-button mice or trackballs who want one driver for every brand.
