About Tinkercad

Tinkercad is a free web app from Autodesk that introduces 3D design by combining and subtracting simple shapes such as boxes, cylinders and spheres. It is widely used in schools and by beginners preparing models for 3D printing, since designs export to STL and OBJ and the interface takes minutes to learn. Beyond 3D design, it includes Circuits for simulating Arduino and electronics projects, and Codeblocks for building models with block-based code, plus lesson plans and classroom management for teachers. It is deliberately simple: there are no parametric sketches, freeform surfaces or engineering drawings, so users move on to Fusion, Onshape or FreeCAD for serious work. Tinkercad requires a free Autodesk account, runs in any modern browser and also has an iPad app.

Best for: Beginners, kids and teachers making simple models for 3D printing.
