About TortoiseGit
TortoiseGit adds Git to Windows Explorer rather than giving you a separate app. Files and folders get overlay icons showing whether they are modified, added or conflicted, and a right-click menu offers commit, diff, log, blame, branch, merge, rebase, stash, push and pull, each opening a small dialog. It is based on TortoiseSVN, so teams moving from Subversion find it very familiar, and it works with any IDE because it is not tied to one. It includes its own diff and merge tools, a revision graph and log viewer, and supports submodules, Git LFS and signed commits through Git for Windows. It is developed under the GPL and completely free, including for commercial use, with language packs for many languages and regular releases. It is Windows-only by design. The dialog-per-command style is slower for complex history editing than a full client, and overlay icons can slow Explorer on very large repositories.
Best for: Windows users who prefer working from Explorer, especially teams coming from TortoiseSVN.
