About ungit
ungit is an open-source Git client that runs as a small Node.js server and shows its interface in your web browser. That makes it unusual: you can run it on a remote or cloud machine with only a shell and use the graphical interface from your laptop by browsing to its port. The interface presents the commit graph as connected nodes, and you drag branch labels to move, merge or rebase them, which some people find easier to understand than menus. It covers staging, committing, branching, stashing, fetching and pushing, works well with GitHub, and has Gerrit integration. It needs Node.js, npm and Git installed, and is set up with a single npm command. It is free and open source under the MIT licence. Development is steady but low-key, the visual model gets crowded on large repositories, and running a Git UI over a network port needs care with access control.
Best for: People who want a visual Git interface for a remote or headless machine.
