About Uniswap
Uniswap is the best-known decentralized exchange: instead of depositing funds with a company, you connect your own wallet and trade tokens against liquidity pools run by smart contracts. Uniswap Labs builds the web app, a mobile and browser-extension wallet, and an API on top of the Uniswap protocol, which runs on Ethereum and many layer-2 and other networks. The wallet is self-custody, so you hold your own keys and can swap, send, bridge and buy crypto with a card or bank transfer through partners. Features include MEV protection against front-running and one-click swaps. There is no account, sign-up or identity check for swapping, but you pay network gas fees and pool fees on each trade. The interface code is open source on GitHub. It suits people already comfortable with crypto wallets who want access to a wide range of tokens without a centralized exchange holding their funds.
Best for: Crypto users who want to swap tokens from their own wallet without a centralized exchange.
