About Cloudflare Workers

Cloudflare Workers runs JavaScript, TypeScript, Python and WebAssembly code across Cloudflare's global network, and now also hosts static assets and full-stack framework apps, absorbing what used to be Cloudflare Pages. Code starts without noticeable cold starts and runs close to users, and it can use Cloudflare's other building blocks: KV, the D1 SQLite database, R2 object storage with no egress fees, Durable Objects for stateful coordination, Queues, Workflows and Workers AI. Git integration builds and deploys on push with preview URLs. Pricing is a major draw: the Free plan includes a daily request allowance, and the Workers Paid plan starts at a low monthly minimum per account with usage-based charges, while static sites get unlimited bandwidth and requests on every plan. The trade-off is a runtime that is not Node.js, so some packages need compatibility flags or do not work, and requests have CPU-time limits, making it a poorer fit for heavy long-running processes.

Best for: Developers who want cheap, globally distributed hosting for sites, APIs and edge logic.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Unlimited static bandwidth and requests on all plans
  • Low cost for high request volumes
  • Integrated storage, database and queue services

Why people leave

  • Runtime is not full Node.js, so some packages fail
  • CPU-time limits rule out heavy long-running jobs
  • Spread across many products, which takes time to learn
