About Waze

Waze is a free GPS navigation app built only for driving. Its routes react to what other drivers report in real time: traffic jams, crashes, police, hazards, road works and speed cameras. A large volunteer community edits the map itself through the Waze Map Editor, so new roads and closures often show up quickly. It handles toll avoidance and toll passes, has a motorcycle mode, shows your arrival time to friends you are meeting, and now includes voice reporting and search powered by Google's Gemini. Waze is owned by Google but stays separate from Google Maps: it does not offer walking, cycling or public transport directions, and there is no offline map download. The app is free and ad-supported, runs on iPhone and Android, and works with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and some cars' built-in Android Automotive systems. A live traffic map is also available on the website for planning a drive.

Best for: Commuters and road-trippers who want live traffic and hazard alerts from other drivers.
