About Windows App

Windows App is Microsoft's current client for remote Windows sessions. It connects to Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365 Cloud PCs, Microsoft Dev Box, Remote Desktop Services and ordinary PCs with Remote Desktop enabled, and it replaces the older Microsoft Remote Desktop client on most platforms. It uses Microsoft's RDP protocol, so performance on Windows targets is good and features like multiple monitors, clipboard and device redirection come built in. The app itself is free; what you pay for, if anything, is the service behind it, such as a Cloud PC subscription, or a Windows edition that can host incoming Remote Desktop connections (Pro and above). Signing in with a work or school account unlocks the cloud services, while direct PC connections can be added without signing in. It runs on Windows, macOS, iOS and iPadOS, Android and ChromeOS, in web browsers and on Meta Quest headsets. It cannot reach Macs or Linux machines and offers no attended-support mode.

Best for: People and companies connecting to Windows PCs, Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows 365.
