About Wings 3D
Wings 3D is a lightweight polygon modeler built around subdivision modeling, originally inspired by Nendo and Mirai and developed since 2001. It focuses on doing one job well: you select vertices, edges or faces and use context-sensitive menus to extrude, bevel, bridge, cut and smooth them, which makes it a friendly way to learn box modeling. It includes a customisable interface, lights and materials, and a built-in AutoUV mapping tool, and exports to common formats for use in other software. It has no animation, rigging or sculpting, and its rendering is basic, so most people model in Wings and finish elsewhere. Development is now mostly maintained by one long-time developer with community help, so updates are infrequent. Wings 3D is open source and free for personal and commercial projects, written in Erlang, and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Best for: Beginners and hobbyists who want a simple, free polygon modeler.
