About WiseMapping
WiseMapping is a free web-based mind mapping tool that has been running since 2007. The hosted version at wisemapping.com offers unlimited maps, sharing, embedding and collaboration, plus AI-assisted map creation, and is supported by advertising and donations rather than paid tiers. The same software is open source, so schools and companies can install it on their own servers, for example with Docker, to keep maps in-house. A desktop app is available for working offline and keeping maps strictly local. It can import maps from Freeplane, Xmind and MindManager to make migrating easier. The editor covers the basics well, with keyboard shortcuts, colours, icons, notes and links, but it has fewer layouts, templates and integrations than commercial products, the free hosted service shows ads, and support depends on a small independent team.
Best for: Schools and organisations wanting free mind maps they can host themselves.
