About Wordfast
Wordfast is a family of translation memory (CAT) tools that has been sold since 1999, aimed mostly at freelance translators and smaller agencies. Wordfast Pro is the standalone desktop app: it opens Office, InDesign, FrameMaker, HTML, XML and XLIFF files, including Trados and memoQ packages, and offers TM and glossary lookups, machine translation integration, segment filtering and live quality checks as you type. Wordfast Classic runs inside Microsoft Word as macros, and Wordfast Anywhere works in the browser with your memories stored on Wordfast's server. Wordfast Server lets teams share memories. Pricing is deliberately modest and uses one-time payments rather than auto-renewing subscriptions; Anywhere is sold as pay-as-you-go monthly credit, and the desktop tools have a demo mode before you buy. Wordfast Pro runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, though the company warns that future macOS versions may break it. It suits translators who want a cheaper, cross-platform alternative to Trados.
Best for: Freelance translators who want an affordable, cross-platform CAT tool that reads Trados and memoQ files.
