The short answer

Pick Jotform if you need forms that do a lot of work: payments, e-signatures, PDFs, approvals, offline mobile collection and a huge template library. Pick Typeform if you want a conversational, one-question-at-a-time experience that feels on-brand for surveys, quizzes and lead capture. The biggest difference is breadth against experience: Jotform covers nearly every form use case, Typeform focuses on how forms feel to respondents.

Jotform or Typeform: our take

Jotform tries to cover almost every form use case. Its drag-and-drop builder offers a huge template library, conditional logic, calculations, e-signatures, file uploads and payment fields for Stripe, PayPal, Square and others. Submissions can become PDFs, flow through approval workflows or land in Jotform Tables, and the same account includes an app builder, store builder, PDF editor and Jotform Sign. Its mobile apps collect data offline in the field. Typeform presents one question at a time in a full-screen flow with images, video and transitions, backed by conditional logic, hidden fields, calculations, scoring, payments, AI-assisted creation and integrations with HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Sheets, Slack and Zapier.

Both offer free plans with tight limits. Jotform's free Starter plan limits forms and monthly submissions and shows Jotform branding; paid Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers raise those limits, with HIPAA-compliant and enterprise plans available and 50% off for nonprofits. Typeform's free plan has a low response cap; Basic costs $39 per month on monthly billing for 100 responses a month, and Plus is $79 per month for 1,000 responses. With either, costs rise with volume. Jotform also connects to more than 3,000 platforms through Zapier.

The trade-offs reflect their focus. Jotform's breadth comes with a busy interface that can feel cluttered. Typeform's conversational flow is pleasant for short forms but slow for long data entry, and it offers less layout control. Jotform runs in the browser with iOS and Android apps; Typeform runs in the browser, with forms embedded or shared by link.

For operations-heavy uses such as registrations, orders, applications, healthcare intake or field data collection, Jotform does more. For marketing surveys, quizzes and lead capture where the experience and brand matter most, Typeform is the stronger choice.

Which should you pick?

Choose Jotform if…

  • Small businesses and organisations needing payments, PDFs, approvals and lots of templates
  • You need iOS and Android, which Typeform doesn't list
  • Enormous template library and field types
  • Payments, e-signatures and PDF generation built in

Choose Typeform if…

  • Marketers and product teams who want polished, on-brand conversational forms
  • Distinctive one-question-at-a-time design
  • Strong logic, scoring and hidden fields

About each app

What is Jotform?

Jotform is one of the biggest online form builders and tries to cover nearly every form use case. Its drag-and-drop builder offers a huge template library, conditional logic, calculations, e-signatures, file uploads and payment fields for Stripe, PayPal, Square and others, and submissions can be turned into PDFs, routed through approval workflows or viewed in Jotform Tables, a spreadsheet-style database. The same account also includes a no-code app builder, a store builder, a PDF editor and Jotform Sign. Mobile apps let teams collect data offline in the field. There is a free Starter plan with limits on forms and monthly submissions, and paid Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers raise those limits; HIPAA-compliant and enterprise plans are available, and nonprofits and schools get discounts. The trade-off of all this breadth is a busy interface and Jotform branding on free forms. It runs in the browser with iOS and Android apps.

What is Typeform?

Typeform made the one-question-at-a-time form popular. Instead of a long page of fields, respondents move through a full-screen, conversational flow with images, video and smooth transitions, which tends to feel friendlier and often improves completion rates for surveys, quizzes, lead capture and onboarding. Behind the design are conditional logic, hidden fields, calculations, scoring, payment collection, AI-assisted form creation and a large integration list including HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Sheets, Slack and Zapier. Pricing is per month with tiers that set how many responses you can collect and how many users you get; there is a free plan for trying it out, but its response cap is low, and paid plans become expensive as volume grows. Because every form is conversational, long data-entry forms can feel slow, and some advanced layout control is limited. Typeform runs in the browser, and forms can be embedded in websites or shared as links. It suits marketers and product teams who care about brand and experience.
