About Akaunting

Akaunting is a Laravel-based accounting app for small businesses and freelancers. It covers invoicing, bills, expenses, bank accounts and transfers, multi-currency, taxes, recurring transactions, a client portal and standard reports, and an app store sells extra modules such as double-entry, inventory and payroll. You can run it on your own server or pay for the hosted cloud version. The self-hosted Standard plan is free, and the company describes the project as open source, but the code is published under the Business Source License with an additional use grant that limits free production use (at the time of writing, to a small number of users, one company and a capped number of invoices); larger use needs a paid plan. It runs in the browser on any device. It suits technically comfortable owners who want to host their own books; accountants may be unfamiliar with it, and some key features cost extra.

Best for: Small businesses and freelancers who want to self-host their accounting.
